Notes
a. Note:   1. Obituary of Martha states "Mrs. Lee before her marriage was the daughter of Dr. Mosby Arnold." Mrs. Martha K. Lee, wife of Rev. R. A. L ee . . . of paralysis and complaints. . . 2. Manuscript by Thelma Howell Bennett dated 1983 "Grandmother Lee was busy running her household, raising six children, and attending to needs of the sick in her community. She also made the family clothing, including tailoring suits for her husband. Being the daughter of a doctor, she had gained some knowledge of medicine from him, and whenever someone in the neighborhood was sick they would send for "Mrs Lee . . . no matter what time - day or night - when someone needed her, she would either take her horse and buggy or ride horseback to help in what ever way she could. She served as midwife to many of her neighbors." 3. Martha's grandparents were: William Hopkins and Mary Haden. William Hopkins was grandson of Dr. Arthur Hopkins and son of William Hopkins. 4. Family history is a bit wrong on Margaret. It was passed down that Margaret's parents were Dr. Mosby Arnold and Martha Haden. Research has shown that her parents were Moses Arnold and Margaret D. Hopkins (granddaughter of Benjamin Haden and daughter of William Hopkins, Jr. and Mary Haden ). W. P. Howell, son in law, on death certificate states mother of Martha K. Arnold "don't know". The marriage announcement says "Col. Mosby Arnold". 5. 1850 Campbell Co., Leesville census w/parents, age 10 6. Division of John Haden's land: Campbell Co. Haden, guardian (Note: Martha's parents were deceased at this time. 8. Thelma Bennett, a descendant, remembers her mother talking about her grandmother "still playing with dolls when she got married". This would tend to confirm the early age at marriage. 9. NOTE: Judith Wade [email protected]@prodigy.com. Descendant of Mamie Burks. She says that Dr. Arnold was from Patrick Springs.
