a. Note:   William Korb "Bill" SmithWilliam "Bill" Korb Smith, of Huntsville, died on Monday, Feb. 1, 2010, at the age of 90. He passed away peacefully, with his family at his side, after a very short and sudden illness. Bill was born to the late John Smith and Margaret Korb in DuBois, Pa., in 1919. After graduating from Penn State University with a BS in petroleum engineering, he joined Shell Oil Co. He served as a Naval officer during World War II, and participated in the D-Day invasion on LCI(L) 501 at Gold Beach. After the war, he resumed his career with Shell where he worked in Texas and Louisiana. He retired in 1984 with 43 years of service. During retirement, he settled at Elkins Lake, in Huntsville, where he enjoyed playing golf and traveling. Bill was devoted to his family; he was recognized by all as a kind and caring friend and neighbor.He is survived by his wife, Wanna Jean; his daughter and son-in-law, Pam and Peter Howell of Houston, along with their children, Sarah and Michael; daughter, Melissa Foster of Baton Rouge, La., and her daughter, Ashton; and son and daughter-in-law, Chris and Karen Smith of Slidell, La., along with their children, Ryan, Molly, and Matthew.Bill was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, the late Kathleen Regina Barron of Towanda, Pa.; and sisters, Eunice Yount, Julia Korb, and Hulda Mae Simbeck of DuBois, Pa., and Mary Burns of North Tonawanda, N.Y. A funeral service will be held at Faith Lutheran Church at 111 Sumac Road (off state Highway 30) in Hunstville at 1 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 5, with the Rev R.H. Wuensche Jr. officiating. Visitation will be immediately preceding the service. A graveside service will follow at the Brooke Funeral Home Cemetery, 672 F.M. 980, in Hunstville.
