Note: My ex, Bernard Finger, served in the Navy from April, 1956 to April 1960.He did basic at Great Lakes. When he was discharged, he was an ET 1. We were married in August, 1959, so I was a Navy bride for less than a year. His last ship to be stationed on was the T.E. Chandler. My dad was drafted late in the war, when the country ran short of younger men. Married, two kids and older, he went to basic at Farragut, in northern Idaho. That's when we started school at Rathdrum, some 50 miles from the base, I think. The picture I have of the 100 men in his group is dated Jan. 1944. Let's see, in Dec. 44 I would have been 6, and I know I was allowed to start first grade at 5. Looking at dates now, it seems that my dad went ahead to Idaho and we came along later. I remember summer there, and starting school. It must have been that winter, 44-45, when he got sick and was sent to Mare Island and we followed. We went to school that year in Missouri, when we got dropped off with my dad's folks, and then, San Francisco, and then we finished the year back in Chicago. So he would have been in the Navy a year, a year and a half? 1943-45? I'll dig around, I may have his discharge, I'm not sure. The other person on your list, you will have to ask him directly. I am fuzzy on the dates. Oh, hey, Pam joined the Navy! Ask her about it. She just might refuse to talk about it, since she was in barely 6 weeks, I think. It was 1984-85. You could ask her about walking to my house in Delano in the rain, the taxi wouldn't go the last mile. Cousin Cara
