a. Note:   Martha Ellen Scott was known as a "good Christian woman". She moved to Scottsville, Texas with her parents William James Scott and Henrietta S. Warner. This family was related to the founder of Scottsville William T. Scott who was instrumental in the founding of the Texas and Pacific Railroad. Marshall which was nearby was at one time the largest town in Texas. Due to the railroad interest of Mr. Scott, it became a center of railroad activity and it attracted many immigrants hungry for good wages. This brought Timothy Kelly to Marshall where Martha met and married him. They were married at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Marshall, Texas. He was a faithful Catholic and always attended Mass at the Catholic Church. However, Martha who was devoted Methodist attended her church. She listed as being an active member of the Methodist Church at Taylor, Texas. She was said to have been a very generous and kind person devoted to her husband and their children.
