a. Note:   In John Sankey is listed as a son of William D. Sankey in the "Recollections of The Early Settlers of Montgomery County and Their Familes," by W.G. Robertson, 1892, pp. 110-113. In the disposition of property after the death of James Daniel, Rebecca is listed as being the wife of J. T. Sankey. In "Recollections", John is said to have married a daughter of James Daniel. The Daniel and Sankey Families were neighbors. In the recollections, John is listed as "Dr." John T, Sankey is listed in Dictionary of Alabama Biography, Vol. IV, by Owens, page 1502. The information regarding hm and his family is from this biography. John Sankey granduated from the University of Pennslvania as an MD. Early in the War of Secession, he joined the First Alabama calvary, but because he was an MD he petitioned for home service. The children listed in the article as noted above has the following George, graduated from the Louisville medical college, Ella died in early childhood, Bette married E. H. Grant, William, Maggie, Robert died in infancy, as will as an unnamed child. In another listing of these children, George is listed as an MD, Ella is listed as having died at 18, Bette married E. H. Grant and lived at Ramer, Alabama, Daniel Rice Sankey died at six, Margeret married a Fleming and lived at Snowdoun, Alabama, William D. Sankey became a farmer, Robert died at 3, and Frank Emmett Sankey died at 44. This listing is from a Sankey Family member who lives near Snowdoun, Alabama. John and his wife are buried in the Sankey Cemetary, Butler Hill Road, Montgomery Co., Alabama. This is near Snowdoun near the Providence Presbyterian Church on highway 331.
