a. Note:   This person is listed in the land records of his father, Cason Scott. James Scott is buried in the Scottville Cemetary near Scottville, Texas. His wife made application for a war of 1812 pension. Her application for pension included a brief description of him as having "reddish hair" and blue eyes.His place of birth is listed and other information regarding marriage and dates of service. He appears in the land records of both Copiah County, MS and Craven County, SC He is listed in the deed book of Sumter County of South Carolina G150-153 as the son of Cason Scott. The Harrison County Historical Library in Marshall, Texas has extensive data on this family. On October 4, 1814, he volunteered in the War of 1812. He served as a private in Captain Caper's Company from South Carolina commanded by Captain McQuilla. In 1819, he moved to Louisiana and then to Copiah County, MS. In 1846, James Scott and his family moved to Scottville, Texas. Pastor Enoch Mather Marvin preached his funeral. Pastor Marvin later became a bishop in the Methodist Church. Along with other members of his family, he is buried in the Scottsville Cemetary in Scottsville, Texas.
