a. Note:   Born June 24, 1819 in Alabama. Like his Grandfather Henry Haggard and uncles Noah Haggard and JoelHaggard, he became a Baptist preacher. In 1854 in Texas he became the colporteur for the Texas BaptistConvention, He preached in almost every county in Texas In the mid 1850's he married Mary, last name unknown, possiblyMcAnnally, who was born in Tenn about 1835. By the 1860's they wereliving in Bell Co. near Belton. Boarding with them was John's nephewJohn Union Clabaugh. With her he had at least 3 children--Elizabeth,Williamand John. Mary died in 1864. When John was 46 he married Mary Yarborough (b. 1835 in Alabama) Shehad 2 children by previous marriage (James Yarborough and John C.Yarborough). They had a son, Thomas. By 1870 John moved to Leon County where he lived in Beat 5 nearCenterville. His nieces from deceased brother Charles lived withhim(Lydia Clabough and Theodocia Clabaugh. By 1880 Mary had died and John, now 60, was living in Leon Co. withhis stepsons and young son Thomas H. Clabaugh Rev. Clabaugh died June 13, 1883 and was buried in Concord ChurchCemetery in Leon Co. between Centerville and Marquez on Hwy 7.Personal note--on visiting this cemetery in 2004, I could not locateany grave marker. The Concord Baptist Church had since died outalthough the building remained. Upon contacting the CemeteryAssociation, they confirmed his burial there but could not providefurther info.
