Note: John Wesley Jenkins, age 68, died at his home on Tuesday, November 15, 2005. He is survived by his wife Nancy after 21 years of marriage, sons Scott Carr and Ryan Jenkins and of Charleston, West Virginia. Stepchildren include Faith Watson and Rene Barnhart of California. Grandchildren include Katherine Jenkins, Chad Hart, James Manzanerez, Billy Bullock, Roxanne Gonzales, and Bobby Ramirez. He was raised in Charleston, W. Va. by his parents, Hansford Jenkins and Cora Walker Jenkins. His grandparents also lived in the same household and had the most loving care, as John was the only child. His relatives always congregated at his house where they told stories of the past and, of course, enjoyed his Mom?s homemade pies. The Sunday school teacher always told John his calling would be a minister of the Lord. He had a powerful speaking voice and knew his Bible. John worked in the surface mining business as a Foreman, and commercial vehicle driver across the country. Anyone could ask him how to get to a certain part of the country and he could give them directions without looking at a map. In Arizona, he worked for Holsum Bakery as a baker, Chevron Gas Station, and Sunset Ford Dealership in customer service. John and Nancy met in 1980 in West Virginia through mutual friends at a social gathering. John took time off from work to arrange a date, since he worked the graveyard shift at the mines. First date April 21, 1980. They were close friends until unfortunately they parted January 2001. Nancy returned to Arizona, living with her sister. John admitted he missed Nancy and was tired looking at four walls and called Nancy. He decided to drive cross county to find Nancy, and surprise, woke up the household at 6 a.m. on Halloween Day, October 31, 2001. They were united again. John and Nancy were married, June 19, 2004. John was a very amicable person. John was a very honest individual who walked in an upright position. He was a pillar of the community. There was not a day that John could not make someone laugh. He was there when you needed help. He could always be seen laughing and joking with people in the malls, at work, dining, etc., and was so knowledgeable about many subjects. We will truly miss him. He was a member of the Charleston Lodge #168 in South Charleston, W. Va., the Scottish Rite Valley of Charleston, W.Va. and Beni Kedem Shriners A.A.O.N.M.S. of Charleston, W.Va. A memorial service will be held at the Peace Lutheran Church, 18265 North 89th Avenue, Peoria, AZ 85382 on Saturday, November 19, 2005, at 1:00 p.m. Service conducted by Pastor Stephen Talmage. Please send your contributions to the American Cancer Society.
