Note:   Notes By Elke Hall: John D. was 21 when he married Eliza. They were married by C. E. Wiggins in Tazewell Co. On this marriage record, the parents are given as James Hall and Nannie White, and J. E. and Margaret Bowling were listed as Eliza's parents. He was raised by his uncle, Henry Leonard Hall, a shoemaker in Maiden Springs, and by his aunts Elizabeth and Nancy. By 1900 (Tazewell Co. Census), Henry L., 71 and Elizabeth, 79, lived with John and his wife Eliza and their children in Maiden Springs. The birth date of John D. is given as 1858 in his death certificate. Sept. 28, 1928 Clinch Valley Paper, Tazewell, VA: Death of J. D. Hall The death of John David Hall occurred on the 7th day of September. Mr. Hall was 69 years old and the end was not unexpected as he had been in failing health for several months. Beside a wife, he leaves five daughters and five sons to mourn his passing, one daughter having preceded him to the Great Beyond many years ago. The funeral was conducted by Rev. W. D. Larrow, pastor of the Methodist Chruch, and the remains were laid to rest in the family cemetery near Liberty Hill. Mr. Hall was, and had been, a devoted member of the Christian Baptist church for many years. He seemed to have a desire to help others and especially young people, giving them advice, which was profitably received by many. He was loyal and will be missed by all who knew him, friends as well as his immediate family and relatives.
