He was the second child of William Floyd and Margaret Burgendine (Burguntine-Burgindoine) Doyle. He married Martha A. Jewell, born about 1837 in Virginia, she was the daughter of John and Christina Hall Jewell, from Montgomery Springs, Virginia. They were married 21 September 1852 in Montgomery County, Virginia for the sum of $150.00. Her father had to sign for her to be married since she was under the age of 21. In fact she was about 15. The 1860 Virginia census lists her age as 22. 1860 Census Mercer Co., Va., P.O. Princeton, Va., 21 June 1860, page 7 (349). James A. They came with two young sons, William Montgomery born 22 Nov 1854 and James E. born 10 July 1856. On 23 Sept 1856 he bought 200 acres on Brush Creek, Mercer County, Virginia, for $300.00 from Christopher & Sarah Dillon. (deed book 4 pg 312). A deed transfer on 6 Nov 1856 sold by James A. Doyle and Martha A. for $1000.00 for land in Montgomery Co., Va., 156 acres, to Edward Sublett took place. No record has yet been found of James having served in the Civil War for either the North or South. he was, however, Constable for Beaver Pond Township (now Bluefield, West Virginia) from October 1867 to June 1869. Then 25 May 1870, he sold 5 acres to Lorenzo Hicks - deed book 6 pg 202 - Mercer County, West Virginia. 26 May 1870, he sold 200 acres to William and Dennis Fielder for $960.00, deed book 6 pg 212. The 22 August 1870 census of James 48 and Martha A. 34, Working on Farm, and family are found in Rogersville, Tennessee, Hawkins County, district 9 (page 106 and 3). Children living at home at that time were: William M. age 15 Mary A. age 6 James E 14 Elizabeth 4 John J 10 Martha E. 2 Emma J. 8 Charles T. 12 months (Margaret C. is not mentioned, born 19 Dec 1857 and she is listed in Mongomery County, Virginia 1860 census Age 3 - Question: did she die or visiting someone at time of 1870 Tennessee census?) James, Martha and family returned to Mercer County, West Virginia before 5 December 1873, (Roetter (Rosa Angeline was born this date Mercer County, West Virginia) and they are found in the Beaver Pond, West Virginia 1880 census, Mercer Co., ED 88, page 29, 26 June1880. William M. is not found with the family in 1880, he is however found on his own census 1880 Mercer County, West Virginia. Married and with daughter, Martha age 1. Note: Mercer County, Virginia became Mercer County, West Virginia at the beginning of the Civil War 1862 Note: Since there is a 2 year span between 1862 & 1864-65 there is a possibility James did serve in the Civil War - I just haven't found it. In 1896 (21 March) he traded farms and moved to Big Tunnel. On October 21, 1889 he sold eight (8) acres to Jabob Helson. (Deed Book 23; page 176).
