Herbert Wade Doyle, the oldest child of Herbert B. and Nannie Lou Doyle , was born 8 January 1905 in Bluefield, Mercer County, W.Va. About 1914 or 1915 his parents moved to Roanoke, Va., where he grew up, studied to be a minister: but either was unable to continue his studies or felt this was not the right profession for him, and became a salesman working for a variety of firms during his life. He married Runella Louise Walters 17 June 1930, They had four children, Sarah Jane, twins Nancy Lou and Herbert Wade , Jr. , and William Alexander. Durning World War II he worked for Linde Aire Products, a Division of Union Carbine, in Charleston, W. Va. Several time he tried to enlist. His greatest desire was to be an Aerial Reconnaissance Photographer. This was not to be, however, because of a deferment due to his priority job. He was transferred to Bluefield, W.Va. where the family lived until 1955 when they moved to St.Albans near Charleston, W. Va. In 1958 the doctors advised him to move to a warm climate for his emphysema. His daughter Sarah Jane and her family were living in Tucson, Arizona with an Air Force assignment and he decided to give Arizona a try.
