Usual address 3 Abbot Place, Inverkeithing. Aged 26yrs. Father: David Duff (settmaker). Mother: Sarah Duff ms Gavin. Cause of death: Tuberculosis of the lungs 1 month. As certified by W.P. Willis MB. Registered by father David Duff, 3 Abbot Place Inverkeithing. Looks like Ann was a victim of what was known as 'galloping consumption' a form of pulmonary TB which destroyed the lungs and killed very quickly. My Nana (Sarah Eliza Duff) recalled having to share a bed with Ann when she was ill and said that she felt terrified. No wonder, this was one of the reasons TB spread so rapidly among the poor. Overcrowded houses, often just room and kitchens with huge extended families living squashed together and sharing beds. Often the ventilation was poor as well with small windows. A photo of Abbot place shows just how small these little cottages were.) Ann's aunt Helen Gavin died from TB in 1885, her niece (Sarah's child) Ann Peacock died of TB in 1884 Burial: Inverkeithing Witchknowe Cemetery 28th October 1914 - also in this grave are a Helen Gough 21/8/1885 and a Rachel Duff 27/7/1951 which need traced. Mystery solved - transcription errors, Helen Gough is Helen Gavin bd 24/1/1885 and Rachel Duff is infant 27/7/1901. ---------------------------------------------------------------------
