Notes
a. Note:   Birth: Linlithgow, Bo'ness 1884 p.33/97 Thomas Dixon, at 65 Furnace Row, Bo'ness. Father William Dixon (coalminer) Mother Mary Ann Dixon MS McAuley married 1881 September 15th Dalserf (?!) registered by Father (possibly a wee bit drunk seeing as he could not remember his month and place of marriage?!!) --------------------------------------------------------------------- A little history for Thomas Dixon. He arrived at Ellis Island USA in March 1907. According to passenger records he had brown hair and brown eyes and stood 5' 2 1/2" tall. His final destinations was Oakley, Wyoming where his brother John Dixon lived. (Oakley no longer exists.) Elizabeth Millar Dixon follwed in December of 1908. At that time Thomas Dixon lived in Glencoe-Diamondville, Wyomin John Dixon, Anthony Dixon (Arrived in USA July 1908) and Thomas Dixon were coal miners in the Diamondville-Glencoe area. At this time there were great concerns about the safety and working conditions in the Susie mine where Thomas and Anthony worked. While they were working that day, they had decided on June 20, 1912 that they would no longer work in this mine. Anthony wanted to leave immediately and Thomas wanted to finish his shift. Anthony stayed a little longer. Some safety issue came up and Anthony said enough was enough and told Thomas to come with him and leave. Thomas said he would follow in a few minutes. As Anthony walked out of the mine there was an explosion. Anthony went in after Thomas but was overcome with smoke and fumes and passed out. Someone got to him and carried him out. After the mine was cleared of fumes and smoke if was found that Anthony had been just a few feet from Thomas when the fumes and smoke got him. My grandfather Anthony Dixon always blamed himself for Thomas' death even though there was nothing he could have done. Sometimes it made him very bitter when he thought of it. It plagued him his whole life. Thomas Dixon died in that explosion at the Susie mine on June 20, 1912. He left behind his wife Besie and son Thomas Anthony Dixon. Thomas and Anthony Dixon were very close. Thomas named his son after Anthony. From Denise Richards in Wyoming. ---------------------------------------------------------------------
