Whitaker Dies at Parkersburg (Date not give in obit or on paper) PARKERSBURG-Walter Coburn Whitaker, 79, died of complications at his home in Parkersburg at 9:45 a. m. Wednesday. He had been in poor health for several years. Mr. Whitaker was born in Lewis (sic) on April 30, 1784(sic), the son of Newton J. and Sarah Jane (sic) Hamilton Whitaker. He married Etta Gardner in 1900. He was a Spanish-American War veteran and a member of the Raccoon Modern Woodmen. Surviving are a brother, David of Kearney, Nebr.; one sister, Jennie Hays of Murdock, Ill. and a great-niece, Mrs. Viola Ross, who was reared in his home, of Parkersburg. He was preceded in death by his wife, three sisters and a brother. The Rev. Ray Britton of Roachdale will conduct funeral services Friday, 2 p. m. (CDT) at the Reeves Funeral Home in New Market. Burial will be in the Crawfordsville Masonice Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home. [Viola Finchum dau. of Clifford, grand-dau. of Laura Whitaker Finchum, Grand-niece of Walter. Viola married Ralph Ross and later inherited the home of Walter Whitaker. When she died, Ralph remarried. W.A. Finchum, Jr. obtained a bunch of pictures from Ralph Ross]
