a. Note:   Death of Catherine Marker Catherine-Marker, the aged mother of ex-Postmaster Isaac Marker, diedat his home on Thursday of last week, this community, thus losing oneof its oldest and most highly respected mothers. Some nine weeks agograndmother Marker fell on the ice, mention of which was made in thePolicy at the time fracturing her left elbow joint, from the shock ofwhich she never fully recovered. The funeral services were held from the Trinity Evangelical Lutheranchurch, Feb. 19, conducted by Rev. J.A. Linn, pastor. Interment inGreen Lawn cemetery by Leonard Marker. The following obituary was read at the church. OBITUARY Catharine Marker was born Feb. 16, 1816 died Feb. 17, 1898, aged 82years 1 day. The subject of the above sketch was born near Miamisburg, MontgomeryCo., Ohio; her parents= names were John J. and Susannah Weaver. She was married to Ezra Marker, Oct 2, 1834 and in 1839 they came toDarke county and located on a tract of land now known as the Winbigleror Irvin York farm in York township, near Brock. At that time thecountry north was an unbroken wilderness save here..and there a cabin.They settled in the green forest and had to cut away the brush tobuild their cabin. The nearest neighbor was two miles, on this farmand they reared their family and endure all the hardships andprivations incident to a pioneer life. In 1855, they moved south-west of Versailles, just at the outskirts oftown, on what is known as the Marker farm where her husband died Aug27, 1893. Shortly after she came to Versailles to live and make herhome with her son Isaac, with whom she has lived until her death. Shewas the mother of 8 children of whom 7 are living, viz: 4 sons and 3daughter; also grandmother of 35 children. The deceased was baptized in infancy, confirmed and joined theEvangelical Lutheran church in her youth, and has always continued afirm believer in its principles taught. Her end was peaceful.
