Born Frederick Co, MD, Jan 17, 1818. Came to Ohio with parents in1823. First settled in Germantown, Montgomery Co, after 7 years toDayton and Easton Pike, 6 mi. W of Dayton. Father died Nov. 29, 1854.Aged 74 y 10 mo 10 da. Mother died at home of Lewis near Eaton inPreble Co. Feb 12, 1870 Aged 86y 9 mo 29 da. Obituary William Marker, son of George and Margaret Marker, is the last of afamily of nine children - 8 sons and 1 daughter. He was born in Fredrick county, Md., Jan. 17, 1818. He came to Ohiowith his parents in 1823, when five years of age. The marker familyfirst settled near Germantown, Montgomery county, where they remainedabout seven years, after which his father bought a small farm on theDayton and Eaton pike, six miles west of Dayton, which remained theMarker home until the death of his father which occurred Nov. 29,1854, 74 years, 10 months and 10 days. After the death of his father the mother made her home among herchildren until her death at the home of her son Lewis, near Eaton,Preble county, Feb. 12, 1870, aged 86 years, 9 months and 29 days. The subject of this sketch spent his boyhood days at the oldhomestead, and when in young manhood he worked in Darke and Preblecounties, and with an indomitable will, which was his characteristiche helped to clear up and make out of a howling wilderness thisbeautiful country which future generations now enjoy. On Nov. 13, 1851, at the age of 33 years he was united in marriage toMiss Mary Ann Harleman, at Liberty, Montgomery county. Shortly aftertheir marriage they moved to Painter creek, Darke county on a piece ofland in the forest which Mr. Marker had previously earned Here they commenced housekeeping in a one room round log house,puncheon floor and stick and mud chimney, their furniture andhousehold fixtures consisted of a bed, a table, a couple benches, (nostove) and a few pewter plates and pans. In a few years he sold this land and bought a farm near Jacksonville(now Versailles). Selling this farm in two years they moved toLiberty, Montgomery county, thence to the Eaton pike near the oldhomestead from where in a few years they moved to near Lexington,Preble county where they bought a farm and continued to make theirhome until Aug. 14, 1806, when the home was broken up by the death ofthe partner of his joys and sorrows, the mother, aged 71 years, 9months and 23 days. After the death of his wife Mr. Marker with his daughter Ellen, (theonly child remaining at home) went to live with his son Frank, twomiles east of West Alexander, Preble, Co., where he continued to makehis home until the evening of Tuesday, Jan. 2, 1906, when hepeacefully fell asleep after an illness of ten days, aged 87 years, 11months and 10 fays. They were the parents of six sons and two daughters; four sons survivethem, viz: Frank, Thomas and Washington who reside in Preble county,and Silas, who lives in Los Angeles, Cal. The deceased and his wife were communicant members of West AlexandriaLutheran church for many years previous to their death, from whichplace the funeral services were held Friday, Jan. 5 - conducted by thepaster, Rev. Schillinger; interment in Fairview cemetery. Thus closes the life of an uprightman, who was conscientious in allthings he engaged in, and one at whom the finger of condemnation couldnot be pointed.
