Note: Excerpt from Wellman Centenial Book John came to Wassonville IA in 1855, following his brother, WilliamSquires Griffith, who arrived in Iowa in 1846 and settled atWassonville in 1848. In 1857 he married Priscilla Longwell and in 1864 John boughtland in Section 16, Lime Creek Twp, from his mother-in-law, paying$13.75 an acre. Grant Griffith purchased this farm from his father,and at Grant's death it passed as a life estate to the heirs of FloydGriffith, namely: Gertrude Berger Griffith, Lois Griffith Topping andRichard Griffith. At their death the farm will become the property ofthe grandchildren of Floyd Griffith. Floyd's son, Richard has lived on the farm since 1961. Griffith Answers The Final Roll Call - 26 Dec 1914 John W. Griffith more familiarly known as Grandpa Griffith whoseillness bad been noted in these columns from time to time, passed awaylast Saturday at 3:20 p. m., at the home of his son, G. G. Griffith;west of town. He was aged 79 years, 10 months and 2 days. The deceased was one of our earliest settlers coming hero m theyear 1856 with bla mother from Indiana. his na-tive State. On Oct. 27,1857, he was united in marriage to Priscilla Longwell, and to theunion was born six children, three of whom survive, namely: Mrs. M. V.Wagamon, Mrs. Frank Geyer and G. G. Griffith. The wife and mother wascalled to her final rest June 7, 1899. Mr. Gritflth was one of afamily of eleven children, all of whom preceded him to the GreatBeyond. He was converted and united with the Methodist church at an earlyage. and remained a faithful Christian to the end. His everyday lifewas a splendid example of true ChrIstianity. and his death will bemourned by all who knew him. The funeral services were hold at the Bunker Hill M. E. churchMonday afternoon, conducted by Rev. A. M.
