Note: From a Family Bible record sent to me by Eleanor Malloy: ****** Permelia Stephens was born July 6, 1818 ****** Elias Moore and Permelia Stephens were married July 29, 1834 =================== I found these records showing various parcels of property that Permelia seems to have purchased in Washington County, Illinois. I beleive that her husband Elias Moore was still alive, because there are records of him purchasing property this same year. From the Illinois Public Domain Land Tract Sales Database; found on-line at: http://cyberdriveillinois.com/cgi-bin/archives/land.s : STATE WIDE Name of Purchaser// Legal Desc.// Sect-Twnsp- Ran-// Acres// Total Price// Dt of Purch// Cnty ___________________________________________ MOORE PARMELIA // SESE // 11-01S-03W // 40.00 // $50.00 // 01/21/1839 // WASHINGTON Vol. 031, Page- 143 MOORE PERMELIA // SENE // 14-01S-03W // 40.00 // $50.00 // 03/11/1839 // WASHINGTON Vol. 031, Page- 151 ================== From the 1840 Federal Census of Washington County, Illinois; from ancestry.com, image 15 of 26: Permelia Moore; 1 male 15-19 years, 1 male 20-29 years, 2 females under 5 years, 2 females 15-19 years, 1 female 20-29 years (Apparently Permelia's first husband Elias Moore had just died around the time of this census. Listed nearby are the households of Thomas L. Moore, Elias' grandfather; George Hood, husband to Elias's sister Lucinda; and Jonathan B. Moore, Elias' brother. Marriages: Groom's name: Wells, Joseph Bride's name: Moore, Parmelia Date of License: September 30, 1841 Book A, Page 10 ================= From the 1850 Federal Census of District 20, Washington County, Illinois, taken August 15, 1850, household #41; from ancestry.com, image #6 of 168. Permelia is listed in the household of her 2nd husband, Joseph Wells: Permelia Wells; age- 30, female, born- Illinois (Permelia's two daughters from her marriage to Elias Moore, Mary and Sarah Moore, are also listed in the household. There is a 1 year old daughter, Angeline Wells, who must be her child with Joseph. Although I do not have any confirming information, it appears that Permelia's 1st husband Elias, died about 10 years earlier. Eleanor Malloy says she found an LDS record giving a date of marriage for Permelia and Joseph Wells as September 1841. RW)
