Notes
a. Note:   From a number of sources I have her name as Mary, with a nickname of Polly. She is listed in the will of her father in 1821 as "Polly Manifee." I previously had her husband's name as "Robert Menefree." In the deed from 1825, involving Polly's mother Elizabeth distributing the estate of her husband to her children, the name is spelled "Menefee." This is also how it is spelled in the transcribed marriage record below. I think that Menefee or Manifee are probably closer to the actual spelling, and I am going with Menefee. I have had trouble finding records for Polly or Robert. I found a marriage record in Culpeper County, Virginia, listing Robert and Polly as having married there on April 15, 1806. I found a "R. Menafee" listed in Todd County, in the 1820 Census. I also found a "Robert Manifee" listed in Todd County, in the 1830 Census. I have determined Robert's approximate dates of birth, from those census records. I have also determined Polly's approximate dates of birth from those records, but narrowed it a bit based on the fact that I knew she was younger than her sister Sarah. It appears from these records, that Robert was 15-20 years older than Mary. They are listed in the 1930 census living next door to the household of Elizabeth (O'Neil) Waggener, who was the widow of Polly's brother James Waggener. I also came across a bit of information about Polly and Robert, in a book called the "Descendants of John Menefee & Mary James," written in 1971 by Ferdinand Northup Menefee. He mentions the marriage record from 1806, and notes that they might have had as many as eight children. This figure is probably based on the 1830 census, which lists 10 people in the household. Ferdinand lists one child, Robert Waggener Menefee, and lists three wives for him and a number of children. I have transcribed the information in the book in the notes of Polly's husband Robert. I think from the 1820 census, it is very likely that Polly and Robert had at least four children, but it is not clear that they had more, from the 1830 census. I found a 42 year old James Menefee, listed in the 1850 census in Todd County, Kentucky. I think there is a good chance that he is another son of Polly and Robert, but am unable to verify this. From other records that I have found, I have managed to piece together at least a partial descendant tree for their one known son Robert. Polly was apparently the third oldest child born to her parents James Jones Waggener and Elizabeth Garnett. She was almost certainly born in Culpeper County, Virginia. It is clear that Polly and Robert had moved to Todd County by 1820, from the census record there. A number of Polly's siblings and relatives had moved to the Todd/ Christian Counties area of Kentucky between 1815 to 1820. The records that I have for their son Robert, show that he was born in Virginia, in 1815. This would support that Polly and Robert moved to Kentucky between 1815 and 1820. Polly's parents moved to this area in 1820 or 1821. I have been unable to locate Robert or Polly in the 1840 or 1850 censuses. I presume that they remained in the Todd/ Christian Counties area until their deaths, but have not been able to verify this or when they died.
