Note: From an apparently unpublished book, "Descendants of John Menefee & Mary James" by Ferdinand Northup Menefee, 1971; sent to me by Terry Erb: On page 11 there is a brief mention of Robert and Polly, with a footnote. Robert Menefee (born in 1780), who married Polly Wagner in Culpeper County in 1806; (44) (44) Genealogy Society of Utah, Culpeper County, Marriage Bonds; p. 80, the marriage took place on 15 Apr 1806, in the record, Polly's name is spelled "Wagoner." Robert and Polly may have had as many as eight children. Their son Robert Wagner Menefee (1815-1878) was married three times, first in 1838 to Sarah Lamb, then in 1844 to Minerva Jane Collins, and then in 1847 to Mrs. Virginia Flournoy Williams (1825- 1894). Sarah must have been the mother of his first child, John (1842-1857), and Minerva the mother of the next two - Cornelius (born in 1845) and Adolphus (1846-1847). The rest of his children were by Virginia, Augustus (1848-1849), William (1850-1851), Amelia (1852-1905) who married Flourney Snelling in 1871, John E. (1856-1858), the Rev. Richard S. (1858-1928) who married Anna Cheatham in 1884, Walter R. (1856-1858) who married Bettie Gililan (born 1967) and Roberta L. (1863-1946) who married Robert Piper. ============= From the 1820 Federal Census of Todd County, Kentucky, page 131; from ancestry.com, image 20 of 21: "R. It appears possible that there is a son or daughter with their spouse and some young children, living in the household. They are listed next to the home of "Elizabeth Waggoner," who I am fairly sure is the widow of James Waggener, brother of Robert's wife Polly.- Rick Waggener) ============= From the Todd County, Kentucky Tax Records, Tax books 1820-1830, 1833-1835, 1837-1839; FHL US/CAN Film (8241) Robert is listed in the following additional records: ****** 1830, Manefee, Robert; page 58, 1 white male over 21, 4 horses, 180 acres on West Fork/ value $5 an acre, originally patented by S T Read, total value- $1,100 (Robert is listed next to an entry for a James Manefee, who I am fairly certain must be a son of Robert and Polly's. RW} ****** 1833; Manifee, Robert; page 42, 1 white male over 21, 5 horses, total value- $250 Although this page is hard to read, it appears that listed next to Robert are three other Manifees. I was unable to locate Robert or Polly in the Property Tax Book record in Todd County for 1837 or any subsequent tax book records there. I think this means that they were probably deceased by this time, but don't know for sure. Perhaps they left the area. RW )
