Note: Edward Cleo Shamp was born on January 3, 1928 in Ionia, Ionia County, Michigan. He was the oldest of four children born to his parents Edward Shamp and Lena Belle Dunham. His father worked as a plumber and a steam fitter. Ed and his family moved to Charlotte when he was fairly young, between 1935 and 1940. He attended Charlotte High School where he met his future wife, Dixie Lee Ald. Ed and Dixie got married after high school on October 5, 1947 in Charlotte, Michigan. Ed learned the plumbing trade from his father. He joined the local Plumbers and Steam Fitters Union based in Battle Creek, Michigan. He worked for the rest of his life as a plumber in construction. He retired in about 1990. Throughout his life Edward was an avid golfer, winning several golf championships over his lifetime. He was especially proud of two trophies that he was awarded for hole-in-ones. In 1990’s, Ed and Dixie moved out of Charlotte and began to divide their time between their cottage on Townline Lake in Lakeview, Michigan and their home in Astatula, Florida, near Orlando. After Dixie passed away in 2008, Ed lived with his daughter Barbara in Olivet, Michigan. He passed away in Olivet on January 29, 2014.
