Notes
a. Note:   From a Kay- Woods family Bible dated 1839, which was posted for sale on-line at E-Bay. The seller was an apparent broker of old and rare books. There were fourteen pages from the Bible containing family information, which had been photographed and posted on-line. The Bible was clearly authentic and I was able to read and transcribe most of the information from the photographs. The first two pages contained entries pertaining to Gabriel and his wife Frances and their children, and are posted in Frances' notes. The Bible was purchased by Myra Daniel, who confirmed the authenticity of the Bible and the information in it . Myra said that it was her intention to eventually donate the Bible to the Library of Virginia. The entries for Gabriel were: Page 1. ****** Gabriel Kay died 18 Decm. 1818 ****** Gabriel Kay was born 10 May 1774 ****** Gabriel Kay and Frances Waggener were married 28 Octr. 1802 ============= From Genealogies of Virginia Families, from Tyler's Quarterly Historical and Genealogical Magazine, Vol. 2; Published Baltimore, Genealogical Publishing Co., Inc. 1981: Page 529, This is part of an article titled "Notes on Kay and Allied Families" by Mrs. P. W. Hiden, Newport News, Va. (Originally published in April 1939) "Gabriel, the older son on Robert Kay was born May 13, 1774, and died in Virginia, December 18, 1818, he married in Culpeper County in 1802 Frances Waggoner, sister of Sarah Waggener who married his brother James. They had issue Betsy Ann born November 7, 1803, Peggy born July 27, 1805, Reuben, Nimrod, Gabriel, Susan adn Rebecca." ============== From the "Kay-Pendleton-Neel Families" book by George and Margaret Rose, published by J. Grant Stevenson, Provo, Utah; 1969: pages 50-53 The following account of some of the later generation of the Kay Family was complied from two Bibles; one which is now in the possession of Mr. Robert T. Kay of 5454 Mary Lane Drive, San Diego, California, and the other in the possession of Mrs. Lewis Kyser of Grenola, Kansas. The Bible in the possession of Mr. Robert Kay is a family treasure and is that very Bible which Robert Kay carried from his home in Caroline County, Virginia, to Christian County, Kentucky. It appears that the Holy Writ was handed down from father to son in this order: Robert Kay, James Kay, Robert Garnett Kay, Robert Garnett Kay II, Ralph G. Kay, and finally to Mr. Robert Kay of San Diego, California. The record here reproduced appears in Tyler's Quarterly Magazine, Volume 20- pages 175 to 179. To this record has been added the vital facts concerning Garnett E. Kay who married Dorothy E. Minor and their descendants. Robert Kay Sr.- born February 1751, died Oct. 20, 1823, aged 72 yrs., 8 months, 20 da. Peggy-his wife, born 1749, died May 21, 1815, aged 66 years. ---------------------------- Gabriel (son of Robert and Peggy) - b. May 15, 1774; d. Dec. 18, 1818, aged 45 yrs. Fannie (Waggoner) wife of Gabriel born Oct. 2, 1782. Children of Gabriel Kay and Fannie his wife: Betsy Ann born Nov. 7, 1803 Peggy born July 27, 1805 [Gabriel and Fannie Kay are said to have also had: Reuben, Nimrod, Gabriel, Susan, Rebecca.] (The book is mostly about the family of Gabriel's brother James, and goes on to list names and dates for his descendants. - Rick Waggener) ============= From the Marriages of Culpeper County, Virginia, 1781-1815; compiled and published by Catherine Lindsay Knorr, 1954: ****** 28 October 1802. Gabriel Kay and Sarah Waggoner. Minister William Mason, Baptist. P. 62 ============ From the 1810 Federal Census of Culpeper County, Virginia; from ancestry.com, image #50 of 94: Gab. Kay; 1 male under 10 years (either Gabriel or Reuben), 1 male 26-44 years (Gabriel); 2 females under 10 years (Betsy and Peggy), 1 female 26-44 years (Fanny); 13 slaves (Gabriel and family seem to be listed near to the households of his brother James and his parents. James Kay was married to Fanny's sister Sarah Waggener. - Rick Waggener) ============ I believe that Gabriel and Fanny moved to Kentucky in 1815 or 1816. I am pretty sure that they moved to what was Christian County, probably near to the town of Trenton. In 1820 Todd County was formed from Christian and Logan counties, and this is part of the area of Todd County that had been Christian County. I base this on the biography I have found about Gabriel and Fanny's son Nimod, and the fact that I have found Fanny on the Property Tax Records in Todd County, in the 1820's. Gabriel almost certainly was in this area when when he died in 1818. - Rick Waggener
