Notes
a. Note:   From "The Henderson Family of Scotland and Tatamagouche, Nova Scotia, and Allied Families," Compiled with commentary by Heather Dianne (Tidwell) Sumi. From the works of Frank Patterson, Catherine Dickie, Anthony Gagiani, the late Marjorie Durgin (Henderson) Miller, and her son Maxwell Borden Miller, George Donald Henderson, Ida MacDonald (Henderson) Higgins, Barbara J. Northan and many other family members who contributed. Page 32 THE FAMILY OF WILLIAM HENDERSON AND CATHERINE RICHARDS ----------------------------------------- The fourth son of John Henderson Jr. and Abigail Johnson was William Henderson. William married Catherine Richards. She was possibly a descendant of James Richards of Somrnersetshire, England, and Roxanna (Ogden) Atkinson who I believe settled in Newfoundland very early on. In an case, these two had the following children together; 1. William Henderson, born April 23, 1842. 2. Daniel Henderson, born May 22, 1848. This may be the very same Daniel Henderson that married Catherine Henderson. She may have been William's brother Thomas Henderson's daughter, in which case they were first cousins. I have no records of them having any children. Daniel passed away September 28, 1932. 3. Alexander Henderson, born April 14, 1850. 4. Hannah Henderson, born June 15, 1852. 5. George Henderson, born November 5, 1854. He married Elija May Lombard, born January 20, 1860. They had one son that I know of; 1. Ellsworth Henderson, who was born September 20, 1877. 6. Archibald Henderson, born 1857, 7. John Richard Henderson, born October 26, 1863. John Richard Henderson passed away December 22, 1932. =============== A couple of records sent to my by Nan Harvey, from the Registry of Deeds, ****** Dated April 1, 1845 (Book 21, p. 561): Refers to "William Henderson of Tatamagouche in the District in the District of Colchester County of Halifax and Province of Nova Scotia and Catherine Henderson his wife..." ****** Dated October 30, 1861 (Book 40, p. 586): Refers to "William Henderson of Head of Tatamagouche Bay Farmer..." ============== From the 1861 Census; District 10 (Tatamagouche), abstract 4, In. 22: Henderson, William (In the parentheses are my guesses of the names) 1 married male, age 30-40 (William, Sr.) 1 married female, age 40-50 (Catherine) 2 single males, age 15-20 (William, Jr, and ??) 2 single males, age 10-15 (Daniel and ??{maybe David}) 2 males, age 5-10 (George and Alexander) 1 female age 5-10 (Hannah) 1 male age 2-3 (Archie) ================ From the 1871 Canadian Census; District: 199; County: Colchester; Sub District: E Tatamagouche, Nova Scotia; Dwelling 98; Family 102- "Henderson, William;" male; Age- 48; Province of Birth- "N.S.;" Origin- Scotch; Religion- "P.C.L.P.;" Occupation- Farmer; married "Henderson, Catherine;" female; Age- 52; Prov of Bir-"N.S;" Origin- Scotch; Rel- "P.C.L.P;" married "Henderson, Hannah;" female; Age-19; Prov/Bir- "N.S.;" Origin- Scotch; Rel- "P.C.L.P" "Henderson, Daniel;" male; Age-22; Prov/Bir- "N.S;" Origin- Scotch; Rel- "P.C.L.P;" Occupation- Carpenter "Henderson, George;" male; Age- 17; Prov/Bir- "N.S.;" Origin- Scotch; Rel- "P.C.L.P" "Henderson, Archie;" male; Age- 13; Prov/Bir- "N.S.;" Origin- Scotch; Rel- "P.C.L.P;" Going to School "Henderson, John;" male; Age- 7; Prov/Bir- "N.S.;" Origin- Scotch; Rel- "P.C.L.P" "Henderson, Polly; female; Age- 72; Prov/Bir- "N.S.;" Origin- Scotch; Rel- "P.C.L.P;" Over 20-unable to read (I believe that Polly is probably William's widowed mother.- RW) ================= From the 1881 Census of Canada; Tatamagouche, Colchester County, Nova Scotia, Canada; district 19, page 46, family #205: - William Henderson; male, married, age- 58, origin- Scottish, born- Nova Scotia, occupation- ship carpenter, religion- C.
