Notes
a. Note:   In the middle cemetery of the St. Patrick's Parish on Exeter Road, there is a headstone with the following inscription: "Kittie Keegan McManus born July 30, 1846 died January 9, 1908" I am pretty sure that Catherine is that person. In the 1870 Federal Census, she is listed in the household of her husband Michael McManus, as "Kittie" and there is also an 8 year old boy there named Thomas Keegan. Since she had only married Michael 2 years earlier, I assume that this is a son from a previous marriage, to a Mr. Keegan. There is also a 13 year old by named Burton VanDusen in the household, who might also be the child of an even earlier marriage for Catherine. Catherine was 30 years old in 1870. If this is true that she was married twice prior to Michael, and presumably both of those husbands died, then Catherine had some pretty bad luck with husbands. Her apparent 3rd husband Michael also died about a year after the 1870 census. Her daughter Julia is also buried there, directly adjacent to Kittie's grave. Julia also died young, in 1891 at 22 years old. Catherine is not listed on the 1880 census in Exeter County. I have used the dates of birth and death from the grave marker. ================== From Vital Records, Monroe County, Michigan by Nancy De Graff Toll Charter, St, Patrick's Parish: "McManus, Catherine- -d. Jan. 13, 1908, a. 67 yrs."
