Brace; Pontiac, Michigan Address: "Carleton, Mich." Cause of Death: Sauclely Place of Burial: Houghton, Michigan ============= As reported in the notes for Mary's husband Peter, he received a pension as a result of his service for the Union Army during the Civil War, and when he died, Mary applied for and apparently received a Widow's Pension, based on that same service. Bruce Dunn gave me a copy of document dated May 17, 1923, indicating the termination of that pension after Mary's death. There is note of a check for $30, that was canceled when Mary's death was reported. It doesn't say if this was a yearly pension or quarterly or monthly. There is another document that Bruce gave me, dated March 17, 1924. It seems to be an application for medical and funeral expenses for Mary, submitted in Oakland County, Michigan by Mary's daughter Eva Lundberg. It appears that at the time of her death, Mary had been living in the home of Eva and her husband John, at 439 S. Saginaw, Pontiac, Michigan. Eva is requesting to be reimbursed for $220.93, for doctor's fees and the cost of transporting Mary's body from Pontiac to Houghton. Most of the other information is a repeat of information reported above.- Rick Waggener ============= From St. Ignatius Catholic Church records of Houghton, Michigan, given to me by Bruce Dunn: ****** Burial Record 1877-1923, page 172 Anna Knechtges, died April 23, 1923, buried April 28, 1923, age 83; father: Nicholas Lefever mother: ----- Anheuer; died Pontiac, Michigan (Although from the records Anna's body was clearly buried with her husband Peter in Forest Hill Cemetery in Houghton, Michigan, her grave is not marked with a headstone.
