Marie is listed here in the household of her husband: ------ Anna; wife, female, age- 62, married, r/w's, born- Wisconsin, parents born- Germany =============== Courtesy of Rose Mohnsam, from the Chilton Times - August 15, 1935: Mrs. Mary Steffes, 77, died at her home in this city Saturday morning after a lingering illness. She was born March 15, 1858 at Johnsburg, Wis. She was housekeeper for Rev. Forian of Jericho for about 15 years, and later kept house for Rev. Heuting of Jericho and Chilton. On June 3, 1912 she was married to Anton Steffes at St. Mary’s church in this city. She was a member of the Christian Mothers of St. Mary’s church. She is survived by the following three daughters, Mrs. Jos. Schmidlkofer, Chilton, Mrs. Chas. Grebel, Stockbridge, Mrs. Jacob Hertel, Milladore; three sons, Henry, Louis and Theo. Steffes, Chilton; 32 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren, and one brother, Anton Karls, Peebles. The body lay in state at the Erbe-Hoffmann Funeral Home until Sunday afternoon when it was removed to her home until the funeral which was held in St. Mary’s church Monday morning, Rev. H. E. Hunck officiated. Burial was made in St. Mary’s cemetery.
