This seems to have been written as part of a series of stories written in 1937, to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the City of Festus, Missouri. The story is about the Festus baseball team, known as the "Maroons." They were sponsored by George F. Neale, superintendent for the Pittsburgh Plate Glass Company in Crystal City. The story talks about how popular the team was and how they would often play to large crowds on Sundays and holidays, at the first baseball park at the foot of Walnut Street in Crystal City. The story was based on a letter written to the paper in 1937, and signed "Old Resident." It speaks about 29 years earlier, in 1908, when the City of Festus put together it's first football team. Although it doesn't mention the name of the team, it says that the team was composed of mostly former college stars. It said that the team practiced at night and played their games on Saturday afternoons, at "old Harrison Park, located on South Mill Street." Mentioned in the lineup of players is, "Subs: G.
