May 13, 1943: John Lee Dies In Hospital John A. Lee of the South Hill road, New Hudson, died at 10:00 o'clock Thursday evening, May 5, at the Sessions hospital in Northville where he was taken Saturday, the 1st, after suffering a severe heart attack. Mr. Lee was born January 7, 1861 at Wedmore, County of Somerset, England, the son of John and Sarah Lee. At the age of 20, he came to this country and worked for a short time at Orchard Lake. He later worked on the Gore farm and Brundage farm, later buying the Brundage farm, which was located a Southfield and Seven-Mile roads, Redford. After several years he made a return visit to England. On December 19, 1905 he was married to Jessie F. Sturman. In April, 1917, they moved to this community, purchasing the Harry Fawcett farm on South Hill road where he lived the rest of his life. Mr. Lee led an active life until three years ago when he developed a heart ailment. However, he had been feeling very good until the latter part of last week. Saturday morning he was taken critically ill and was taken to the hospital, where he suffered cerebral hemorrhage. He recovered slightly, but died on Thursday evening as above stated. He is survived by his wife and seven children: Esther E. Lee of Kalamazoo; Ruth (Mrs. Harold Barnes) of Wixom; Adam R. Lee at home; Ralph D. Lee of Northville; PFC John S. Lee, who is stationed in New Guinea; Lieut. Harold C. Lee of Kansas City and Elizabeth R. Lee at home, also two grand-children, and two nieces in England. Funeral services were held from Phillips Funeral Home in South Lyon, Monday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock, with Rev. C. G. Williams of the local Methodist church officiating.
