Notes
a. Note:   William was the fourth of nine children born to his parents Charles Thomas and Eliza (Hill) Sturman, in Detroit, Michigan on April 14, 1874. His parents had moved from England to Michigan about two years earlier, and William was the first of their children born in the United States. William apparently grew up on his parents' farm in Redford Township, Wayne County, Michigan. In about 1894 he married Martha Perrin. They apparently initially lived on a farm near Martha's family in Turner Township, Arenac County, Michigan. By 1910, they were living on a farm back in Redford Township of Wayne County. This was the farm of his parents that he grew up on. William's father had died in 1904 and his mother in 1908. William apparently took possession of the farm in this time period. Apparently this was a fruit farm, because William is listed as a fruit farmer on the 1910 and 1920 censuses. William and Martha had apparently sold this farm by 1930, because they were living then on Birwood Avenue in Detroit. According to their granddaughter, Gloria (Sturman) Waggener, they later had a small farm on 10 1/2 Mile Road in Southfield, Oakland County, Michigan. This was near to the where Gloria was living with her parents Raymond (son of William and Martha) and Margaret Sturman. William died in Clearwater, Pinellas Co., Florida on November 26, 1964. Martha had died in Detroit on May 30, 1958. They are buried together in the Grand Lawn Cemetery in Detroit. Rick Waggener ============== Agnes Sturman apparently had a Family Prayer Book that had been in possession of Charles and Eliza, and apparently later Agnes' father Charles James Sturman. The following is a transcription by Agnes of family information in that Prayer Book. I have the entire transcription in the notes for Charles Thomas Sturman: - William George Sturman; born- April 14, 1874, in Redford; died (cause- Gall Bladder) Nov. 26, 1964, age 90, Clearwater, Florida Married- Martha Perrin; born- Dec. 1, 1873; died- May 30, 1985, age 85 ================ From the 1880 Federal Census in Wayne County, Michigan, Redford Township, page 15A, taken June 14, 1880, household 244; from ancestry.com, Wayne County district #261, image 25 of 40.
