Notes
a. Note:   According to Gloria (Sturman) Waggener, William John was know as "Jack." She says that Jack moved to the Detroit area before her mother's family (John Knechtges and Christie Ann McLeod). I believe that Jack moved to Detroit in 1910, and apparently joined his brother Harry there, who had moved shortly before Jack. Gloria also reported that her mother's family lived upstairs in the same house as Jack, which would have been when her mother's family first got to Detroit, in around 1919-1920. The census record below from 1920, seems to verify that he was living next to (or below) John and Anna Knechtges. I believe these household were apparently on Vermont Avenue, near to McGraw Avenue. I know that Jack married Irene Rollbuhler in 1913, in Detroit. They had one child, William John MacLeod, Jr., born in 1916. I do not have a lot of information about Jack, and do not know when and where he died. According to the 1930 and 1940 censuses, he became some sort of manager of an auto factory. According to Gloria, he and Irene lived in Grosse Pointe, Michigan. They were living in Grosse Pointe Woods in the 1940 census. I know that Irene died in 1977 and that she was living in Grosse Pointe at the time, so I assume that she and Jack lived there the rest of their lives. Jack probably died in the 1960's, but I don't have the date. - Rick Waggener =================== From the 1900 Federal Census of Calumet Township, Houghton County , Michigan, Precinct #4, taken on June 12, 1900, district 172, sheet 19a, page 129, in the rented house at 2113 Log Street; from ancestry.com, image 37 of 50.
