Notes
a. Note:   In the obituary in 1911 for Mary's mother, Jessie Nicholson McLeod, it was noted that one of the surviving children was a Mrs. Hill of Chicago. At the time I first came across that, I did not have any idea who this was, but I determined that it must be one of the three daughters who I did not know of: Nancy, Mary and Jessie. I was unable to find any matching Nancy or Jessie in the Chicago area, but I did find a Mary married to a Robert. I have since found the marriage record for Mary and Robert, which confirms everything I thought I knew. I also have since found her death record in Chicago in 1923, which further confirms everything. From the census records, it is apparent that Mary was actually the first of her siblings to immigrate to the United States, apparently in 1877. Her brother Angus and sister Alexandria were next, moving initially to North Dakota in about 1880. In about 1888 Mary's brother Malcolm moved to the US, apparently near to Mary and Robert in Chicago. About that same time her brother Alexander moved to Houghton County, Michigan. In about 1890, her brother Angus apparently moved from North Dakota, also to Chicago. -Rick Waggener ================== From the 1861 Canadian Census of West Ashfield Township, Huron County, Ontario, page 51, film #2202/ C-1035.
