Notes
a. Note:   Daniel was the fourth of ten children born to his parents John Stafford Perrin and Mary E. Shell. He was born on November 15, 1848 in Mariposa Township, Victoria County, Ontario, Canada. He was reportedly living in Fenelon Township of Victoria County, when he married Susan Armitage on January 1, 1873, in Lindsay of Ops Township of Victoria County. Since I know that Daniel and Susan's first child, Martha E. Perrin, was born in Michigan on December 1, 1873, it appears that they moved to Michigan in 1873. They are listed in the 1880 census in Au Gres in Bay County, Michigan. It appears from the 1871 newspaper story below from Iosco County, Michigan, that Daniel was in this same area in Michigan, for sometime before he returned to Ontario and married Susan. There were four other children born to Daniel and Susan: William John (1875), Margurite (1877), Daniel Regnor (1878) and Pearl Lillian (1885). In the 1900 census they are listed in Arenac County, Michigan, apparently near Au Gres. Arenac County was formed out of Bay County in the early 1880's, and Au Gres was in Whitney Township in Arenac Township, meaning that they were probably on the same farm in 1880 and 1900. They are listed in Turner Township, Turner Village, in 1910 and 1920. This is close to Au Gres, but it seems to show that they must have moved between 1900 and 1910. In the birth records of his children, Daniel is listed as a mechanic in 1873, a blacksmith in 1875 and 1877, and a farmer in 1878. In the 1880 and 1900 censuses he is listed as a farmer. In the 1910 census he has no listed occupation and in the 1920 census, Daniel is listed as a blacksmith. Presumably they remained in Turner Village until Daniel reportedly died in 1925. Susan lived another 16 years after Daniel's death. Daniel and Susan are buried together in the Whittemore Cemetery, also known as the Saints Cemetery, just outside the town of Whittemore in Iosco County, Michigan. This is just north of Turner Village. Rick Waggener =============== From the 1861 Canadian Census of Mariposa Township, Victoria County, Ontario. Daniel is listed in the household of his parents: Daniel Perrin; born- Canada, religion- Church of England, age- 14, male =============== Ginger Metcalf Dingus found the following letter published in the Iosco County News Gazette on August 3, 1871, and then in the Tawas News Herald on April 18, 1902: Bay City, Mich. July 29, 1871 Sheriff James McGarity: Dear Sir- I desire to know if Daniel Perrin is at your place or at Tawas, Alexander O'Neil is here under arrest, charged with the murder of Daniel Perrin. I have been informed that Perrin is alive and well, and is at Tawas. The supposed murder took place in the town of Arenac, in this county, on the 7th inst. I was informed that Perrin was at work in a blacksmith shop at Alabaster. I telegraphed an officer in Alabaster in regard to the matter, and he answered that he was not there, but supposed to be in Tawas. I am employed as counsel for O'Neil, and am endeavoring to find the whereabouts of Perrin. O'Neil says he (Perrin) started to go up the Shore, and thinks he must be in Tawas, or in that vicinity. You will do do me a great favor if you make inquiries in regard to the whereabouts of Perrin, and have this letter published in Iosco County Gazette. John McNamara (It's hard to comprehend the story behind this letter, but it does seem quite likely that this is Daniel. Besides the dates and locations, on various records he was sometimes listed as a blacksmith. This is about a year and a half before he reportedly married Susan Armitage in Ontario, Canada, and about two years before they moved apparently permanently to this area of Michigan. Assuming that this is true, then this seems to show that Daniel was in the area around Tawas, Michigan, before he married Susan. He apparently returned to Ontario and married Susan there, and then they moved to Michigan. -RW) =============== From Ancestry.com and Genealogical Research Library (Brampton, Ontario, Canada).
