a. Note:   Married-Milberger-Schnell-Russell, Ks Record Pauline Stenzel Milberger, of this county and John Schnell of Windsor, Colorado, were united in marriage at the home of Mr. & Mrs. Jacob A Krug at high noon, Sunday, February 6, 1916. Following the ceremony a bountiful wedding dinner was served. The bride is a daughter of Mr. & Mrs. John Stenzel of this county and is well and favorably known here. The groom is a prosperous farmer of Windsor, Colo. The afternoon was spent in a social manner. Those present to witness the marriage were: Mr. & Mrs. John Stenzel, Jacob A Krug, Jacob Stenzel & family of Olmitz, Gus Stenzel of Rush county, Victor & Waldemar Stenzel, Henry Milberger, Amelia & Jacob Milberger, Grandma Wagner, Ben Wagner, George Dumler, Lydia & Sam Boxberger, George Rein of Ness county, Paul & Emma Young & Rev & Mrs. Harder. In the evening Mr. Stenzel sent autos for Mr. & Mrs. Wm J Roe, John Radke, Alex Krug & Adam Mai, Jr. and they spent a pleasant evening together. Mr. & Mrs. Schnell will leave in about 2 wks for their home at Windsor, Colorado. John Schnell was born 18 Sep 1879 in the colony, Norka, Russia. During his 8th year he came with his parents to America, the family settling at Sutton, Ne. In the year 1879 he married Margaretha Burbach. This union was blessed with 5 children. In 1915 his wife was taken from him through death and he was alone with their 5 children. The following year he married his grealty sorrowing widow, Pauline nee Stenzel. This union was blessed with 2 children. At the time, he accepted the 5 children from his second wife's first marriage for whom he remained a devoted father until his end. In the year 1930 the deceased came to Portland with his family and shortly thereafter joined the Zion Congregation. He became ill in the beginning of February, medical help was ineffective and he was obliged to go to the hospital on March 19. Exploratory operation revealed the tragic fact that he was suffering from cancer which was too far advanced to be arrested by human means. As quietly as was his nature as a man and father, he bore the suffering until he was called home quite unexpectedly on April 21(1937). He died at the age of 60 years, 7 months & 3 days. He leaves his sorrowing widow, Pauline Schnell, 3 daughters and 2 sons from his first marriage, one daughter and a son from his second union, 5 foster children, 11 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild, his grieving mother at Windsor, Co, 2 sisters and 2 brothers. Pastor J Hopp gave the funeral sermon in the German language and the undersigned spoke in English (O.J. Tiede, Pastor) Interment was at Rose City cemetery. May the dear father in Heaven be near the bereaved with his comfort and aid. Portland, Ore. The 1920 Weld Co census shows John Schnell, age 43, John Jr., age 20, Lillian I, age 3, Pauline, age 37, Sarah, age 15 and Willie, age 10. It also shows that John entered the US in 1884 and Pauline in 1899
