Band Sergeant Ralph William Dennis of Goodwood Summoned Home
By the somewhat sudden death of Band Sergeant Dennis, of Goodwood, onTuesday last (April 12th) The Salvation Army in the Cape Peninsula haslost Faithful, as well as a well-known Soldier in those parts. He was oneof our early day captures when the Cape Town I. Corps carried on its workin lower Waterkant Street at present known as Exchange Place.
Deeply convicted of his sins Ralph Dennis made his way, with others, tothe Mercy Seat and forthwith took his stand for God and The Army just onforty years ago. Later he became associated with Claremont Corps in whichhe held the position of Local Officer for many years with devotion andsincerity, endeavoring a11 the time to induce the unconverted to seekChrist an particularly to win his own relations an associations for God.
During recent years he moved to Goodwood to which Corps he was transferred
and was a most faithful fighter to the very last. He was visited byseveral Comrades during his short illness, among whom were Major Hooperand Mrs. Staff-Captain Le Roux. and the testimony he left was clear andbright up to the last and in harmony with his lifelong profession as aSoldier. Of him it can truly be said that he was ever at his post andready to speak sing or pray. A man of meek and kindly disposition, aswell as of a conscientious and upright character, his loss will begreatly felt.
The funeral was conducted by Colonel Rauch, assisted by Major Hooper andStaff Captain Le Roux, and attended by a large number of Comrade Soldiersand friends.
The Colonel also led a Memorial Service in Goodwood Hall on Sunday night, when there was again a large attendance, and most impressive spiritthroughout, several bearing testimony to our departed comrades exemplarylife and to his devoted service. His eldest son William is bandmaster ofGoodwood corps and following in the footsteps of his father. May Godcomfort the bereaved wife and children and draw them each and all to HisFold.
