a. Note:   William fought in the war of 1812 with the Mounted men who went to Canada. He was a Fifer and served with his father, William J. Bridgford and his brother John Long Bridgford. They rode up the Maumee River to fight the British. Marriage date of William and Mary Wakeland taken from Butler co. Ohio Marriage Records Vol.1-4 1803-1834 LDS film# 355779 Marriage date of William and Oleatha Carter taken from a copy of their wedding certificate. William owned 50 acres of College land near Oxford, Ohio. He sold this land in 1830 and moved to Fayette County, Indiana. In 1832 he again moved to Marion County,Indiana where he reared part of his family and accumlated 400 acres of land. He became a prominent and influential citizen and for four years served as the Justice of Peace. In Politics, he was first a whig and afterwards a Republican. Birth and death dates taken from the tombstones in the cemetery on the south side of the Spring Mill Road, north of White River and west of the Michigan Road, Marion County, Indiana, north of Indianapolis. He learned the trade of shoemaking and followed that trade for many years. William and his wife were both buried in Marion County, Indiana.
