Note: Obituary from the Rock Island Argus: Mrs.Dora A.Wakeland 67,formerly of 548 26th St. Rock Island,Illinois died at 2:30 yesterday afternoon in Moline Public Hospital,after a four months illiness. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 pm tommorrow at Wheelan Funeral Home,with Elder Frederick C.Bevan of the Re-organized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints officiating. Burial will be in Chippiannock Cemetery, Rock Island. The former Dora Wilhite was born in Rock Island June 13, 1900 the daughter of Franklin and Isabella Fuller Wilhite. She received her education in Rock Island.She was married to Clair Wakeland April 5 1919 in Rock Island. He preceded her in death October 21, 1938. Following their marriage they lived in the Millersburg area and Mrs. Wakeland returned to Rock Island in 1948. Survivors include seven daughters, Mrs Carlyle Gridley, Keithsburg, Illinois Mrs Melvin Engle,Rock Island; Mrs William Morris and Mrs Harry Stegall,both of Millersburg. Mrs Lewis Stropes and Mrs. William Knox,both of Alpha and Mrs Vernon Wilson of Anaheim, Calif; two sons, John Wayne, Rock Island and Clair Lawrence,Moline...twenty four grandchildren and eight great grandchildren; a brother Ralph Wilhite in New Mexico and three sisters, Mrs Mary Laymance, Davenport,Iowa; Mrs Marjorie Smiley,Eldridge,Iowa and Mrs Edna Patterson New Windsor.She was also preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and two sisters. The following corrections need to be made in my mothers obituary : Her father was James Henry Wilhite and her mother was Celia Isabella Fuller. Her birth date was June 13 1899 not 1900.
