Note: arried. He was returned to Millersburg and buried in the Millersburg Cemetery almost three years later. OBITUARY John A Wakeland, son of Mr and Mrs William Walter Wakeland was born August 7 1889 in Perryton Twp, Mercer county and died of Pneumonia August 31 1918 in a hospital somwhere in France. He came to Millersburg with his parents when a child and resided here until he answered his country's call for soldiers. He volunteered in May 1917 and was placed in Company B 6th Illinois Infantry I.N.G. at Springfield. From Springfield, he went with his company to Rantoul and later transferred to Houston, Texas where the company was merged into Battery B 123rd Field Artillery. From Houston, the Battery was sent to France where he landed the forepart of June 1918. He leaves to mourn his passing, a father, who is a veteran of the Rebellion, four brothers residing in Millersburg, one brother residing in Finley, this state and two sisters livingin Millersburg.There also remains one brother Harry, who is a member of Battery B and his youngest brother Clair,who belongs to Company M 360th infantry and is now being invalided, having had his right arm amputated just below the elbow. His mother died December 7 1912. Memorial services in honor of the departed was held Sunday afternoon in the L.D.S. Church. Rev. W.E. Peak officated.
