Note: From Raleigh News& Observer Douglas Dwight Rowland, 70, of 207 Lake Street, Fuquay-Varina, formerly of Willow Spring, passed away at his home on Monday morning, November 3, 2003. Doug was a U.S. Veteran having served in the Army during the Korean conflict. Since his retirement from Leviton Manufacturing, Doug has enjoyed his time outdoors golfing, fishing, and tinkering with anything mechanical. He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Carolyn (Carol) Hodges Rowland; six children, Susan Debevec of Wake Forest, Richard Rowland of Fuquay-Varina, Terri Pardue of Holly Springs, Tony Hodges of Willow Spring, Joy Dombrowski of Orange City, FL and Paula Hellem of Holly Springs. He is also survived by his sister, Sylvia Mitchell of Willow Spring and brothers, Bobby Rowland of Louisville, KY and Jimmy Rowland of Willow Spring along with 14 grandchildren. His parents, Dwight C. Rowland and Elizabeth Callis Rowland and brother, Harry C. Rowland preceded him in death. The memorial service will be held on Thursday, November 6, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. at Thomas Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, November 5 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. He will be remembered by family and friends for his famous bar-bques and fish frys, his quick wit, and his ability to make everyone laugh and have a good time. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 620 West Morgan Street, Raleigh, NC 27603.
