Note: My Grandma, Maude May Manning lived in East St. Louis, Ill. for awhile as a young girl, I remember her talking about the city. Mrs. Whittaker celebrates 90th: Mrs. Tom Whittaker (Maude May Manning) of Walnut Ridge celebrated her 90th birthday with an open house Sunday afternoon. She received many cards and gifts, including congratulation and best wishes from President and Mrs. Reagan. She received two beautiful bouquets from the children of the late Viola (Whittaker) Frye of Michigan. Margie Gaither served cake and Opal Shelley poured punch. Out-of-state guests were Mr. and Mrs. Norman Mixdorf and Mr. and Mrs Tom Frye of Michigan, Mr. and Mrs Kenneth Cates and Pam of Missouri, Mr. and Mrs Kenny Allen Cates and daughter of Colorado. Children of Mrs. Whittaker present were Marie Bradshaw of Jonesboro, and Christine Herzog and Betty Wolthoff, both of Iowa. Many other friends and relatives attended. Mrs. Whittaker is the mother of eight children and has 29 (?) (I think 34) and 10 great-grandchild. I think more than 10, also.
