Notes
a. Note:   My paternal grandparents, Mr. & Mrs. George Meadows, came to Arkansas in 1886 from Olney, ILL. when my father, Bert Meadows was only 3 years old. They settled in the eastern part of Lawrence County on the Frisco railroad just west of Cash River, which formed the eastern boundary of the county at this place. This is the delta section of the county and was heavily wooded. They settled near the village of Sedgwick. There was a large sawmill located on the river, which was used to float logs down to the sawmill from the north and a spur railroad brought logs from the south. The village was of some size at the time my grandparents arrived, but by the time of my first recollection it had dwindled to about 150 or 200 people. The importance of the town, in my mind, was due to the fact that we got our mail at the little post office there, and due to the fact that East-West trains stopped at the little railroad station there. Sometimes the train would take on water at the water station near the river to make steam to propel the engine. The eastern section of Lawrence County is delta - sloping southeast to the Mississippi River approximately 100 miles away. The Western section of the county is mountainous, known as the foothills of the Ozarks. (Source: With His Help - Autobiography by Cecil Meadows - http://www.meadowstree.com/cecil.htm)
