He was not much of a manager, but was always sick--had pneumonia several times and died of tuberculosis when Allie was about 3 years old. He did not drink or smoke. I (Ruby Canterburry) would hoe cotton for a farmer and in exchange he would plow for us. This was while I was living at home with my mother, Carrie Belle Doyle Canterburry Guess and step-father, Jim Guess.
