This information from Alta Hayes: The information I have comes from my aunt who talked with relatives back in 1973, with some bible records. This is what I have, Sarah Elizabeth Whitaker Lewis was the daughter of Tally Mack Whitaker and Rebecca Lucretica Green. Sarah had three brothers, Jeff, John and Mack. Three sisters, Carolyn, Mary and Cynthia. With info on Carolyn...married a Doc Acres and had one child..Mary Elizabeth(Bettie) Acres. She married William Calhoun Beegle. They had 7 children, Morton, Myrtle, Callie, Drew, Lannie, Bert and Nora. Morton was 67 in 1973 and hence came this info. Morton had a son named Ted Beegle and I'm trying to locate him.(Source: Alta Hayes, February 13, 2001) Leander J. Lewis was born February 02, 1858 in Illinois and died December 07, 1943 in Sallisaw Oklahoma. Parents were both born in Illinois. Name of parents as listed on his death cert. were Thomas Harrison Lewis and Nancy Burton. On the 1900 Census for Boone County, AR. Crooked Creek Twps. Vol 3, E.D. 26, sheet 4, Line 97. Leander is listed as a Farmer, that owned his own farm. Don't know how many acres, but there is a number above Farmer that looks to be 14a = 0 24(check to see what these numbers mean) Found Leader J. Lewis and Sarah E. Whittaker on the 1910 census in Okla, Sequoyah County, 062 0195 0156. Leander age 51, Sarah age 53, Leander, Jr. (Lee) age 23 (son), Thomas J. age 18 (son), McKinley age 11 (son) Barb, My printers down so I am just going to list what I received when I asked for our family history. It was written by my cousin Thelma Folks in 1995. She lists her sources as word of mouth, school census records and bible records. Sarah Elizabeth Whittaker was the daughter of Tally Mack Whitaker and Rebecca Lucretia Green. Tally Mack Whittaker was a captain in the Civil War and was killed in battle while fighting for the North. The original Whitakers were Black Dutch and came to the United States along with the Greens, Acrees and others as "stow-always" on a large cargo vessell. They settled in Arkaknsas. Mack Whitaker cut down the first tree where the town of Walnut Ridge Arkansas now stands. It was one of the first settlements in the area. Sarah had three brothers and we believe three sisters. The brothers we Jeff John and Mack Whitaker. The sisters were CAroline Mary and Cynthia. I was unable to find andy more information on Mary or Cynthia but Caroline Whitaker married "Doc" Acrees and they had one child that we know abou She was Mary Elizabeth (Bettie) Acrees and she married a William Calho Beegle. Bettie died May 3, 1946 and William Calhoun died in 1932.They had 7 children, Morton, Myrtloe, Callie, Drew, Lannie, Bert and Nora. Morton was 67 in 1973 and was living in Florrissant Mo. Morton had a son Ted Beeg who was 37 in 1973 and living in Bridgton Mo. The last account we h Bert and Callie Beegle(Callie married a Clark) they were living in Seminole Ok. This is what I started with and it is not factual as you can see. The names of Sarahs parents and brothers and sisters are not in the Bible records. I think Thelma must have gotten that from Morton Beegle. We have tried to contact his son Ted but he hasn't returned our phone calls. We did contact Mary Forrest who is Teds cousin and she sent the same information th had received from you. Diane(from Diane Henry April 2001)
