Note:   John Witt had 9 children WILL: In the name of God amen I John Witt Amherst County bing weak in Body but in Perfect Memory that be to God but callin to mind that it is Appointed for all Men to die I do hereby Constitue and Ordain this my Last Will and Testament that is to say I give my Soul to God that gave it to me and my Body I Desire may be Buried in a Decent maner within the Earth at the Discretion of my Executors Nothing Doubtin but at the General Resurrection I shall Receive the same by the Mighty Power of God again and as Touching my Worldly Estate I give and Bequeathe in the following manner, Item I give to my Seven first Sons Born of my Wife Lucy Ten shillings Sterling to be Equally Divided amongst them by Executors being all the Estate Left to them by me, Item I lend to my well beloved wife Lucy and my Daughter Lucy a Reasonable Maintenance out of my Estate to be given and provided by my Son William Witt, and if in Case he Deceases before them the Estate is to be Taken into the hands of my Executors to Maintain them with During their Lives and then my Son William Witt if alive to be possessed with all the land and Personal Estate Goods & Chattles I dye Possessed with, and if in Case my Son William Witt Deceases without heir his Estate to be Sold and Equally Divided between Littlebery & George & Elisha Witt my three Sons, and all other Wills heretofore made I do hereby Revoke, and do Constitue this my Last Will and Testament In Witness whereof I have set my hand and Seal this 4th Day of December 1781 I do hereby Appoint John Witt George and Littleberry Witt Executors of this my Last Will and Testament, and Desire the same may be Recorded Signed Sealed and Delivered in the Mark Presents of Abner Witt John, X Witt (Large Seal) David Witt, William Witt his John Reid John X Pucket At a Court held for Amherst County the Fourth Day of March 1782. This Last Will and Testament of John Witt Deceased was Presented in Court by John Witt one of the Executors and Proved by the Oath of Abner Witt, David Witt and William Witt Witnesses thereto and the said Executor with Abner Witt his Security Entered into and Acknowledged Bond in the Penalty of Three hundred Pounds, and the said John Witt took the Oath of an Executor according to Law, and the said William was ordered to be Recorded.
