Cuthbert COMBS. I lived on Red Lick of Station Camp Creek near Samuel KELLY, Sr., in 1838-1840. I passed near Samuel KELLY, Sr. house going to school. He asked me 3 times to write deed of land to his boys before the time of his term of sheriff had expired. He thought Samuel, Jr. would break him up and he had worked hard for the property and wanted his boys to have it. I moved away in 1840 at Christmas time. Samuel, Sr. still controlled the land. His sons, Emanuel, John, Harrison, and Edley were on the land then. They looked for a title to their father. My son worked for EPPERSON to clear the land." (Extracted by Combs Researcher Marti Combs from Estill County Circuit Court Records, Vo. 3-4, Ellen Rogers and Diane Rogers. 1984) MC Notes: The above case involves Wm .J. CLARK and Bowles HARRIS vs. Samuel KELLY, Sr., Filed 20 Dec. 1844. There are several depositions in addition to above.
