Compiled by Boyd W Venable of 2312 Branner Avenue, Jefferson City, Tennessee, 3760, a Wiseman descendant. Abner Wiseman Jr was born 2/5,1803 in Kentucky, the third son of Abner Wisemari Sr and his wife Isabell. He died there 3/19, 1888. Abner Jr may have been the first of Abner Sr and Isabel's children born after they settled on White Oak. The year he was born was the year the United States of America moved west of the Mississippi River. At last American settlers could move into Missouri Territory without leaving the United States, and many Kentuckians did just that, including many from Estill County. Later on, Abner's brother Jacob and his sisters Jane and Ibby (Isabell Jr) were among those who pulled up stakes and moved to the former Missouri Territory (which included the young states of Missouri and Iowa). Abner Jr was satisfied to stay in Estill county while others moved on to Ohio. Missouri, Indiana, Illinois and Iowa. He was a Republican and a Methodist, and was the guardian of his young brother Henry B. and a business associate of his brother Jacob after Abner Sr's estat.e was settled. Abner Jr stayed there in Estill County until he died. He married 20 year old Charlotte Becknell Feb 18, 1829 when he was 26, and after Charlotte died he married Sophia Brown 2/13, 1833 when Abner was 30 and Sophia was 16. Charlotte died 3/27, 1831, about fourteen months after her only child, daughter Mary Ann (Polly Ann) Wiseman was born 1/18, 1830. The timing suggests she may have died in childbirth. Mary Ann married William Cox and moved to Princeton, Missouri, where she proceeded to have ten children of her own. Charlotte is buried in Cool Springs Cemetery (see photo). Abner Jr was a County Commissioner, fruit orchardist and land subdivider. He acquired property about two miles southwest of the town of Irvine, Kentucky in the area called Station Camp, and subdivided it into a community now called Wisemantown, where he had a grist mill and sawmill. Abner Jr and Sophia are buried side by side in the Wiseman Cemetery in Wisemantown (See photo). Abner Jr died 3/l9, l888 at the age of 85. His wife Sophia was born 12/10, 1816 and died 1/14, 1897 at the age of 80. Their 12 children were: Samuel Joseph. born 3/23, 1836 and died in infancy. Martha Jane, born 9/20, l837 and died young. Arminida (Amanda) Hall, born 8/3, 1839, married Thomas J Moore 12/23 1858 and moved to Princeton, Missouuri; married 2nd, James Hopper. Westley Montgomery born 10/18, 1841 and killed at Chicamauga, Tennessee in the American Civil War. Maranda Frances born 12/22, 1843, married William J Seal 6/1, 1864 and moved to Kansas in 1869. Nancy Malvina, born ¼, 1846 and gone by 1860. Abner Brown, bl2/10, l847 and died in infancy Anna Elizabeth, b5/25, 1850 and married Dillard E Pinkston in 1873. Gentry, b8/l, 1852 and died young. Sarah Isabell born 5/26, 1854 and married Theophilus Noland 10/28, l880. Sophia Alice, b5/l, 1857 and married Walter Scott 2/18, 1880. Emma Lincoln, bl0/8, 1860 and married George R Witt 11/9/, 1860, married 2nd Luther Scott 2/6, 1899. Abners mother in law, Elizabeth Brown, a literate woman born in 1892, also lived with them in 1850. Literacy among women in Kentucky was unusual in those days, and probably indicates Elizabeth Brown came from a well-to-do family.
