Note:   1810 Census Estill County Kentucky Page 482 - James Barnes Males -10 (4) 10-15 (3) 25-45 (1) Females -10 (1) 16-25 (2) 26-45 (2) 1850 Census, Bloomington, Buchanan, Missouri, 20 Sept 1850, Roll M432_393, Pg 99, Family 80 James Barnes age 80, Male, birth Virginia Isabell Barnes age 79, Female, birth Virginia Racheal Barnes age 6, Female, birth Missouri (Elisha's daughter) Rutha Barnes age 60, Female, birth Kentucky Rachael Barnes age 35, Female birth Kentucky From Ruth Amy Barnes Book: "Brinsley Barnes" page 31: James and Isabella Barnes resided in Estill County, Ky from before 1790 untill 1839, when they and all their children, except one son John, and all their families, migrated by ox cart and boat to Sugar Creek in Buchanan County, Missouri. James was a hunter at the Fort of Boonesboro, Ky, in the War of 1812. Thus I have to date, 1965, the date of birth, date of death and place of birth and burial place of five of the eight sons of James Barnes and his wife, Isabell Lucy Barnes who were born in the Province of Virginia before the American revolutionary War, married November 10, 1790 in the Territory of Kentucky, in what is now Madison County, migrated west in 1839 to settle in log cabins near a little stream named Sugar Creek and establish homes in the Platte Purchase the last area added to "the Missouris." The autobiography of James Barnes, son of Benjamin and Rebecca (Larison) Barnes was published in the North County Tribune, Grant City, Missouri in the February 17, 1915 issue. Son James states in this front page feature article that his grandfather (James Barnes, for whom he was named) "Grandfather Barnes was in Boonesbury with Old Daniel Boone and was one of the hunters of the fort at that time". This is a modest statement, for the National Archives and Records Service, Washington D.C. shows James Barnes on the company Muster Roll of the War of 1812 for August 15 to October 14, 1812 time engaged February 14, 1813 in Captain Kerlay's Company of riflemen, First Rifle Regiment of Kentucky Volunteers, Militia. Kentucky Adjutant General's Office states four men named James Barnes served in the War of 1812, the other three mustered in at Newport, Kentucky. The Adjutant General's information agrees completely with that from the National Archives and Records Service. The Kentucky Historical society, Frankfort, Kentucky, states in a letter of August 25, 1962 signed by the Librarian, Frances Coleman, that in a book "Remember the River Baisin"' by Mr. Glenn Cluff by reserch in census, tax lists, etc.,..traced Captain William Kerley's company and assigned it tentatively to Madison County, Kentucky. Captain William Kerley's Company, lst Rifle Regiment (Madison County) August 15, October 15, 1812, lists James Barnes, Private, and Thomas Barnes, Private. In 1821 James resided in Kentucky, probably in Estill County
