The following information is taken from The Wisemans” 2nd Edition, 1992. Compiled by Boyd W Venable of 2312 Branner Avenue, Jefferson City, Tennessee, 3760, a Wiseman descendant. Isaac Wiseman III was born 6/17-1764 in Berks County, Pennsylvania He would have been only nine years old when the Revolutionary war started in 1773, and 19 at the end of it in 1783. He moved to Monroe County, Virginia with his father Isaac Jr and his brothers around 1797, Married to Mary Magdalene Armentrout, probably in Rockingham County (the Armentrouts were a well known family there). Isaac III was a farmer in Monroe county the same as his dad and his older brothers Joseph and John. He and Mary Magdalene were still there in 1830 when Isaac III was 66 years old. According to BWS Wiseman, Issac III moved to Gallia County, Ohio in that same year, dying there at approximate age 90. Isaac III and Mary Magdalene had nine children, four boys and five girls, as follows: John, born c1792, Sarmuel, born c1794, Isaac, born 1/27, 1796, (Rev) Henry Wiseman, born 6/1, 1809, Annah Barbara, and four other girls. In the Records of Augusta County, Virginia 1745 - 1800, Chalkey Vol II, “Chronicles of the Scotch-Irish Settlement in Virginia”, p.144, I found the following item: “Agreement dated 16th August, 1792, between subscribers and William Herron, Schoolmaster. William is to teach an Eng1ish school at following rates, viz; for L30 (english pounds). William is to teach for one year and to have his boarding, washing and lodging. He is to teach the scholars well and truly in Reading, Writing and also Arethmetick. 3:rd October school is to commence.” There were 22 men enrolled and one woman, which says something about education of women in the early days. One of the men was Isaac Wiseman. Which Isaac Wiseman was It? Now, 199 years later, I cannot say which one. Herron was from Ireland. He drowned attempting to cross North River prior to 1808. One delinquent to the school is mentioned , Adam Wiseman, who apparently went to Tennessee. From "A History of Monroe County, West Virginia" by Oren F. Morton, B. Lit. Baltimore Regional Publishing Company 1988. Page 479-81: Residents of 1799 were placed on a tax list. This is one of the first lists of the residents of Monroe County. Abner, Isaac Sr, Isaac Jr, John, and Joseph were on this list.
