Notes
a. Note:   May 27, 1888. As a young man, he worked for a time in Superior, WI. Later he went to Minneapolis, but failing to get work there and running out of maney, he took the train to Mansfield, SD near where his brother Nels lived. This was July 13, 1891. He started walking to his bother's farm, a distance of about 14 or 15 miles. He slept in a straw stack or header barge that night and continued on the next day.
Nels was a neighbor of the Carl Larson family and Julius was one of 3 Walberg brothers to marry Larson sisters. Julius and Maria were married in 1897 and had 6 children.
Julius obtained a pre-emption on a quarter of land in Clear Lake Township, Edmunds County and after priving up on it, got his hopstead certificate in 1904. He bought more land and farmed and also operated a threshing outfit. In 1910, he build the present house on the farm. Ill health forced him to retire from active work in 1919. His sons, with some hired help, took over the farming operation after that. Julius served on the School Board in Clear Lake Township for many years and was involved in other community affairs and the Lutheran church. Services were held in the school house.
Julius and Maria moved to Aberdeen in 1940 after Ray had married and taken over the management of the farm. In 1947, they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. Julius died at a rest home near Groton, SD in 1954. Maria died following a stoke in 1964. Clifford then bought the farm.
Note:   Julius Walberg was born to Beret and Andrew Walberg at Martell, WI on March 5, 1873. He was baptized April 20, 1873 at the Rush River Lutheran church near Martell, and confirmed at the same church on
