Note: esday at his home near Fullerton, following a gradual breakdown in health extending over a period of years.James H. Beaver was born in Milroy, Pa., on Feb. 23, 1841, and was, at the time of his passing, 87 years, 4 months and 11 days of age. In 1861 at the age of 21, he enlisted for service in the Civil War, in Co. D, 131st Pennsylvanis Infantry, serving for nine months. In 1864 he re-enlisted in Co. K, 206th Pennsylvania Infantry, and served during the remainder of the war.On July 5th, 1864 he was united in marriage to Miss Mary Ellen Fike, at Lewistown, Pa., and to this union were born seven children, four of whom, with Mrs. Beaver, have preceded him in death.In 1884 Mr. and Mrs. Beaver and their family moved to Iowa and in November of that year they came to Dakota Territory, settling near Keystone where they have since resided.In his passing this county loses another of those heroic pioneers who endured the hardships and struggled to transform this part of the country from a bleak priarie (sic) to a community of comfortable homes. He is survived by two sons, W. J. Beaver of Monango and Frank I. Beaver of Fullerton, and a daughter, Mrs. Anna Ekren of Pitt, Minn. He also leaves seventeen grand-children and seventeen great-grand-children, and one sister, Mrs. Sarah Helick of Lewistown, Pa.Funeral services were conducted from the farm home near Fullerton on Saturday, with Rev. O. H. Halgrimson of the Baptist church officiating, and a quartet from this city sang. Geo. H. Keyes, C. P. Crary and Jos. Scott, the three remaining members of John A. Spellman Post G.A.R., of which the deceased was a member, attended the services at the cemetery, where taps was sounded and a firing squad of World War veterans fired a salute.
