Part of the land was sold to E. Thyson and this document is signed by Andrew Anderson and Mary Anderson, his wife. 1860 Census for Martell WI. Andrew and Mary are also listed in the church records as being among the original ten members of the Rush River church, which was organized in July, 1855.
On Sept 23, 1864 Andrew enlisted in Co. G. Third Regiment of WI. He served until the war ended and was dischared in June of 1865.
In 1866 Andrew's wife Mary died, and was buried at the Rush River church cemetary. He was remarried to Beret Jonsdotter (meaning Jon's daughter) in 1867. There were many other Andersons living in the Martell area and their mail was often mixed up. Because of this, Andrew Anderson changed his name to Andrew Walberg. This seems to have been a town in Norway where Andrew lived for a time before coming to America.
Beret was born 4-20-1841 in Ligdal, Norway. Her parents were John Gullickson and Kristine Hidal. Nels was born Sept 24, 1863. His father's name was Thompson, but after Bere'ts marriage to Andrew it was changed to Walberg. Andrew died 2-26-1884 and is buried in the cemetary at the Rush River church. The verse on his tombstone is in Nowegian and translated it read:
We are taveling here in the home of the grave. Here rests the dust of a friend that hurriedl moved away from us. Oh grant, that we might always live to be ready to die. Beret was remarried to Jasper Johnson. In 1896, the farm was sold to Gina and Albert Anderson. On 4-11-1905 it was sold again to L.D. Borgen.
